Qatar 2022 World Cup: Latest spectacular images of planned and completed stadiums

Since it was first announced that the tournament would be in Qatar, the 2022 World Cup has always seemed as if it were decades away.

However, it is now just four years until the eyes on the world fall on this small Middle Eastern nation, and when Russia 2018 is all done and dusted focus will turn solely to Qatar.

Plans have now been finalised for the stadiums which will play host to the planet’s best footballers in four years’ time… and they admittedly look incredible.

One venue, the Khalifa International Stadium, is already opened.

Lusail Iconic Stadium (Lusail) – The entire city of Lusail is currently in the process of being built and its 80,000 capacity stadium will host the World Cup final.

Al Bayt Stadium (Al Khor) – A giant tent structure will cover this 60,000 capacity stadium.

Al Rayyan Stadium (Al Rayyan) – This 40,000 capacity stadium will incorporate symbols of Qatari culture into its design.

Khalifa International Stadium (Doha) – Originally built in 1976, this 40,000 capacity stadium has now been renovated and reopened ahead of the tournament.

Al Thumama Stadium (Doha) – This 40,000 capacity stadium’s design represents the gahfiya – a traditional cap worn by males across the Arab world

Qatar Foundation Stadium (Doha) – The landscape around this 40,000 capacity stadium is dotted with leading universities, where cutting-edge research is conducted.

Qatar Foundation Stadium (Doha) – The arena’s capacity will be reduced to 25,000 after the World Cup, with 15,000 seats donated to stadiums in developing countries.

Ras Abu Aboud Stadium (Doha) – Constructed using shipping containers, this 40,000 capacity venue will be entirely dismantled and repurposed after the World Cup.
